The current debate on climate change concerns energy, environment and the ecosystems has shifted from an emphasis on how to mitigate the effects of increasing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In order to successfully address the issue of climate change, it is essential for both developed and developing countries to attain low-carbon growth all over the world by fully mobilizing technology, markets and finance through public-private cooperation. The country Japan has promoted diversified energy resources, energy-savings and low-carbon technologies. Accordingly, Japan boasts its advanced technologies with the world’s highest level of energy efficiency, including in the area of power generation, home electrical appliance, steel and cement. Japan’s advanced technologies are expected to contribute to achieving low-carbon growth more widely and expeditiously in the developing countries. For this, it aims to design systems to capture low carbon technologies, products, systems, services and infrastructure impacts. Secondly, it promotes Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM) technologies with potentially significant long-term impacts on carbon emissions in Asia-Pacific countries and to provide technical know-how necessary to implement GHG emissions reduction projects under this mechanism. Finally, to develop sustainable development impacts of Joint Credit Mechanism (JCM) and to understand on the institutional and technical aspects of the JCM both public and/or private sectors and contributes to achieving NAMAs by realizing concrete emission reduction projects with simple MRV of emission reduction. 3E nexus is one of these efforts initiated by IR3S platform to enhance research collaboration on energy, environment and ecosystems approaches to sustainable future in targeted Asia-pacific countries.
For this purpose, we are inviting experts with wide range of research interest on energy innovations, environment and ecological systems in the respective partner countries. The project meeting is aimed to disseminate current negotiations on market mechanisms as well as on the JCM project so that the participants from public and private sector can improve their understanding of the climate change mitigation issues. Partner members are expected to lead a discussion for crafting an initial framework for implementing the objectives of the 3E Nexus initiative. The meeting will also establish the formal strategy for project communications and capacity development. Finally, discussions and main conclusions of the meeting will be compiled in a report to contribute to the country wise development of sustainable future and lead to further discussions through 3E nexus platform.
