On 14 December 2015, UNU-IAS and Elsevier will co-organize a public seminar on Sustainability Science in a Global Landscape at UN University Headquarters.
A report on sustainability science in a global landscape was developed by Elsevier in collaboration withThe Lancet and SciDev.Net. As the first of a series of activities that aim to provide valuable insights into the global research landscape surrounding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this report contributes to the understanding of sustainability science as a research field and the dialogue between science and society in sustainable development. In this relatively young field, this study establishes a baseline, both in the definition and the understanding of sustainability science, from which we may follow its progression and trajectory. Six key themes that encompass the 17 SDGs are examined in the report: dignity, people, prosperity, planet, justice and partnership. This seminar provides an overview of this report and discusses future directions for sustainability science research and capacity development.
