Profile

Makoto Yokohari is Professor and the Steering Committee Chair of the Graduate Program in Sustainability Science. After completed doctoral program at the University of Tokyo in 1992, he has worked at the National Institute of Agro-Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba and The University of Tokyo.

Research Interests

Professor Yokohari’s main research interests are in the forms and functions of open spaces in urban fringe areas. He deals with planning concepts of green open spaces including parks, farmlands and woods in the urban fringe areas of Asian megacities and the evolving processes behind the form and function of green open spaces in new towns in Japan.
